Erosion: The wear of the earth's surface is called erosion.
Deposition: The rebuilding process of the earth's surface after erosion is called deposition.
Glacier: The mountain region, which is permanently frozen round the year, is called Glacier.
Mountain range: The Mountains arranged in lines is called mountain range.
Horst: The upper part of the block mountain is called horst.
Graben: The lower part of the block mountain is called graben.
Flora: The vegetation or plants and trees are called flora.
Fauna: The animals are known as the fauna.
There are three major landforms:
Mountains are higher than the surrounding areas they have peaks and slopes. It is a bit difficult to construct things like roads, railroads, schools, hospitals, etc on mountains. There are three types of mountains:
These Mountains are formed when two tectonic plates push each other from opposite directions that result in the formation of peaks. Example: Himalaya and The Alps.
These Mountains are formed when a large area is broken and displaced vertically. The part that is lifted above is called horst and the lower part is called graben. Example: Rhine valley and Vosges Mountain.
These mountains have volcano inside them that may erupt any time. Example: Mt.Kilimanjaro in Africa and Mt.Fujiyama in Japan.
Plateau is generally higher than its surrounding area that is flat at the top. It has hills and small mountains. The Tibet plateau is 4000 to 6000 meters high from sea level, which makes it the highest plateau in the world.
The plain area is a flat area, which makes construction activities easier. It also has different rivers flowing through it that make the soil fertile for agriculture. Due to such facilities, the population in the plain area is very high. The plain area in our country is known as the Northern plain.
