A globe is a miniature model of the earth that comes in different sizes. It is a very useful tool that helps us to study different continents and countries of the world.
The globe is fixed at two-point which are called its axis. The two points are called the North Pole and the South Pole.
Equator is an imaginary line that divides the earth in two equal halves, which are, Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere. It is located at 00.
Latitudes are also called parallels of latitudes. These are imaginary lines that runs from west to east. There are 180 total latitudes. The major parallels of latitudes are as follows:
Following are the important heat zones of the earth:
Torrid zone receives the maximum heat because the rays of the sun directly strike this area. This zone is found between the tropic of cancer and tropic of Capricorn.
Temperate zone receives less heat than torrid zone. The temperature in this zone is moderate. This zone is found between tropic of cancer and Arctic circle, tropic of Capricorn and Antarctic circle.
Frigid zone receives less heat due to which the temperature here is very low and this region is covered with round the year. This zone is found between the Arctic circle and the north pole, the Antarctic circle and the south pole.
Longitudes are also known as meridians of longitudes. These imaginary lines run from north to south. There are total 360 longitudes.
It is the longitude from where the counting of all other longitudes starts. It passes from Greenwich and is located at 00.
In India, there is 2 hour of time difference between places in Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh. Therefore, it becomes important to adopt a standard time for the whole country. Hence, 82 ½ 0E has been adopted as the standard time of India. This is called the Indian Standard Time.
