India is a big country, which is located in Northern hemisphere. It’s coordinates are latitudes 804N and 370N, longitudes 6807E and 97025E. Tropic of cancer divides India in almost two equal halves.
The total area of India is 3.28 Million sq km, which is 2.4 percent of total landmass of the world. India ranks 7th position in land area.
India has total 15,200 km of land boundary. The length of coastline including Andaman Nicobar and Lakshadweep is 7,516.6 Km.
India is surrounded by water on three sides. On west side, it has Arabian Sea, on east side it has Bay of Bengal and on south side it has Indian Ocean.
There is two hours time lag between Gujarat and Arunachal Pradesh. But we follow the time along the standard meridian (82030’E) that passes from Mirzapur (Uttar pradesh). This standard time is called IST or Indian standard time.
From a worldview, India is located in the centre of east and west Asia. The Indian Ocean provides good trade routes that connect India with European and other Asian countries.
In the north, the mountains have been used as a travel route by ancient travelers. From these routes many Indian philosophies, the ideas of Upanishads, Ramayana, and Panchtantra stories have been taken to the other countries.
India shares it land boundary with 7 countries:
India also shares its boundary with Sri Lanka and Maldives. India is separated from Sri Lank by Palk Strait and Gulf of Mannar.
